Martina Vacheva and Nedko Solakov participate in the large-scale exhibition "Diversity United. Contemporary European Art” presenting the best artists in Europe

Works by Martina Vacheva and Nedko Solakov are presented in the exhibition "Diversity United. Contemporary European Art”, which opens in Berlin on June 8. The exhibition will travel to Paris and Moscow later this year.

The transnational exhibition presents an artistic tour d`horizon of Europe currently. The exhibition looks at contemporary European art after the fall of the Iron Curtain and underlines the value of cross cultural conversation. "Diversity United. Contemporary European Art” focuses on themes such as freedom and democracy, fear of the future, solidarity and divisiveness, pandemic and globalization, migration and territory as well political and personal identity.

“Diversity United” assembles works from 90 established and emerging artists from 34 countries. Among them are artists such as: Yael Bartana, Georg Baselitz, Christian Boltanski, Monica Bonvicini, Maurizio Cattelan, Olga Chernysheva, Tacita Dean, Olafur Eliasson, Adrian Ghenie, Gilbert & George, Antony Gormley, Mona Hatoum, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Anselm Kiefer, Peter Kogler, Alicja Kwade, Cristina Lucas, Dan Perjovschi , Gerhard Richter, Ugo Rondinone, Anri Sala, Slavs and Tatars, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rosemarie Trockel, Erwin Wurm and others.

The participation in the exhibition of Nedko Solakov and Martina Vacheva presents two different generations of Bulgarian contemporary art. As part of the exhibition Nedko Solakov shows the 2007 installation "The Three of Them", which includes three geometric objects and handwritten text. Martina Vacheva participates with three works created especially for “Diversity United. Contemporary Art from Europe”. The two paintings “Trashland”, “Bingo for millions” and later “Glory Nature” which present three social realities from Bulgaria.

For the contribution of the Bulgarian artists in "Diversity United. Contemporary European Art” one of the curators of the exhibition, Anne Schwanz, says: Nedko Solakov brings in his works his experience of the fall and rise of different political structures from a personal to a political level, so for us his often ironic and provocative way of commenting on our society and the way in which we live was a contribution to the show which could not be missing. With Martina Vacheva we decided on a young and emerging Bulgarian artist, a young European who is aware of the contradictions of the European society, its wishes and realities. In her current painting it is fascinating to see how she brings the exaggerated contrast of society in our mind.

As of June 8 the exhibition will be on view in the historic site of the Tempelhof Airport in Berlin. "Diversity United. Contemporary European Art”  is realized by the Stiftung für Kunst und Kultur in Bonn and curated by Walter Smerling, Simon Baker, Faina Balakhovskaya, Kay Heymer, Pontus Kyander, Camille Morineau, Johanna Neuschäffer & Anne Schwanz, Hilke Wagner, Peter Weibel.
