FLUCA: AUSTRIAN CULTURAL PAVILION SEASON 2020
The Austrian Cultural Pavilion is an innovative and long-term project in the field of contemporary art – initiated by the Open Arts Foundation and the Austrian Embassy in Sofia and supported by the Austrian Federal Chancellery. In 2020, it is part of the cultural calendar of Plovdiv Municipality.
At the end of June, Fluca – Austrian Cultural Pavilion is occupying its usual place at 38 Otets Paisiy St in Plovdiv in anticipation of the opening of the 2020 season which, even though in a reduced volume due to the pandemic, plans to implement part of its programme agenda by October 2020. Curator of this year’s programme of the Pavilion is Sariev Gallery.
Fluca is an open stage for art and culture, located in the middle of an artistic microclimate set up at the end of Otets Paisiy St in Plovdiv as part of the white cube of the Sariev Gallery, the artnewscafé meeting point, and the office of the Open Arts Foundation. The Enzi iconic urban furniture pieces from the renowned museum quarter in Vienna accompany the stage of the shiny cargo pavilion.
The preliminary opening of season 2020 is on 21 June at 14:00
For its preliminary opening on 21 June, Fluca – Austrian Cultural Pavilion will present on its stage a dedicated visual project by Plovdivian artists Martina Vacheva, Mitch Brezounek and Valko Chobanov. The project will blur the boundaries between illustration, street art, and contemporary art, to pose the question “What are our plans for the summer of 2020?”.
The event will start in the early afternoon of 21 June at 14:00 with a music selection offered by the independent Plovdiv radio station XRaydio on the occasion of its 9th birthday. The music selection list is entrusted to DJs: Joobba, TapWater, Captain Collision.
The official opening of Fluca will take place on 29 June with an exhibition by Austrian artist Florian Lang who will further develop the utopian holiday topic. The exhibition is a continuation of the “Incubator” series of seemingly beautiful landscapes and lifestyle scenes, which explore the drive behind the illusions we all create among ourselves.
Following its opening, the exhibition will be on view until 31 July during the opening hours of Fluca: Tuesday through Saturday from 16:00 to 20:00.
In August, the Fluca stage will present Tatjana Danneberg in cooperation with LambdaLambdaLambda Gallery, Pristina. The young Austrian artist’s exhibition will invite the audience to take an active part, rather than just observe, and to lift the curtain between the imaginary world we live in and the reality that surrounds us.
The programme in September and October will close with a large exhibition of the works of young artists from Plovdiv and Bulgaria, which will occupy Fluca’s space but will also extend across other urban spaces.
