КОРЕНИ / Roots / Wurzeln - solo show of Martina Vacheva at Museum Folkwang, Essen

In the summer of 2019, Sariev Contemporary's represented artist Martina Vacheva will have her first museum exhibition "КОРЕНИ / Roots / Wurzeln" at Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany within the exhibition format "6 1/2 Weeks".

11 July - 25 August 2019

Museum Folkwang, Museumsplatz 1, 45128 Essen

The Bulgarian artist Martina Vacheva (* 1988 in Plovdiv) explores in her work the interfaces between tradition and modernity as well as the influence of Western cultural imports on Bulgaria. With the exhibition title "КОРЕНИ" (roots) Vacheva refers to the references of her artistic work to Bulgarian folk culture, whose themes and modes of presentation she adapts in various and humorous ways. The presentation includes the collaged templates for the book "Parents Cannibals" (2013) and the lavishly designed pop-up book "Stupid woman" (2015). In addition to sculptures and sculptural works in "6 ½ weeks", the ceramic series "Postthracians" (2017) also finds its place on the side of archaeological objects in the "helmet" of Los Carpinteros.

The exhibition format "6 ½ Weeks" is based on short-term planning: spontaneous and up-to-date, it presents young artistic positions.

"6 ½ Weeks" is funded by the Arts, Culture and Social Fund of Sparda-Bank West.
