Stefan Nikolaev at FIAC 2018

А monumental sculpture of the Bulgarian artist Stefan Nikolaev will be presented at the entrance of the Grand Palais in the historic part of Paris and will welcome the guests at the prestigious international forum for contemporary art FIAC.

Nikolaev's sculpture is titled "Streetlight," 2018, and poetically invokes one of Marcel Duchamp's most important works "Bottle Rack". Nikolaev's sculpture resembles a 4-meters high candelabre and was made in Bulgaria by Markov Studio in Trebich. The work can be seen from 18 to 21 October in Paris as part of the FIAC Projects curatorial initiative presenting sculptures and installations in public space in the historic setting around Petit Palais, Grand Palais, and Avenue Winston Churchill in the French capital. The other selected works are from 30 authors from Europe, the United States and Asia, including Rosa Barba, Christian Marclay and Ugo Rondinone. This is the first presentation of a work by a contemporary Bulgarian author in an urban environment in the French capital and is realized in cooperation with the Paris gallery Michel Rein.

Stefan Nikolaev was born in 1970 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He lives and works between Paris and Sofia. As a sculptor, he is a careful observer of the codes that govern our current environment, saturated with logos and signs identical everywhere. His art occupies advertising marketing codes to turn them into pop-minimalism.
