Vienna Looks East for Fine Art

Sariev Contemporary has been featured today in an article at International New York Times by Palko Karasz, exporing how Vienna has become a showcase for East European artists. 

One of the accents of the publication is the international art fair Viennacontemporary, where Bulgaria was a focus country in 2015 upon the initiative of Vesselina Sarieva and Katrin Sarieva, founders of the Open Arts Foundation and Sariev Contemporary in cooperation with Iara Boubnova, curator, art critic, founding member and director of the Institute of Contemporary Art-Sofia and Vessela Nozharova, curator of the Art Affairs and Documents Foundation.

The author introduces the gallery and its activities on the international contemporary art scene with the following words: "Among this year’s dealers at the fair was Vesselina Sarieva, who in 2004 founded a contemporary art gallery with her mother in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. As the focus of the art scene moved to Sofia, the capital, and to the West, she refused to go with the flow. She stayed and worked to promote Bulgarian artists through her gallery, Sariev Contemporary, and a foundation she started [...]"
