Sasho Violetov (b. 1985, Sofia) is a contemporary Bulgarian artist who lives and works in his hometown. He holds both a Bachelor’s (2015) and Master’s degree (2017) in Mural Painting from the National Academy of Arts, Sofia, and in 2013 he further expanded his studies at the Fine Art Academy in Brescia, Italy. His practice spans painting, drawing, and mixed media, often exploring perception, authenticity, and the shifting boundaries between personal and collective narratives.
Since 2016, Violetov has presented several solo exhibitions, including Spectators at [a]cube Contemporary, Artist of the Day at Depoo Gallery, the expressive Liar Liar, Pants on Fire! (2023), and his upcoming 2025 exhibition at Depoo Gallery. His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions across Bulgaria, the UK, and Europe, among them the BAZA Award for Contemporary Art nominees’ shows (2017, 2019), the 11th Biennale of Small Forms in Pleven, and multiple editions of Depoo Gallery’s Limited Prints Only.
In 2022, he was an artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, enriching his research and expanding his international presence. His work has also been featured in contemporary art publications, including Contemporary Identities Art Magazine (Issue #12, 2021).

Humour is a key element in my practice. I’m interested in recontextualization and formation of fake meaning. My works, mainly, are inspired by pictures, movie stills, upside down thinking, a sentence from a short story, mental archetypes, etc.
