Dear friends,
Our summer news from Sarieva/Gallery is here!

We are thrilled to announce that artist Dimitar Genchev has officially joined Sarieva/Gallery. Congratulations to Dimitar, his family and all collectors, enthusiasts and supporters of his work.

If you haven't yet seen the exhibition "между другото" by Bulgarian-American artist Dessislava Terzieva, make sure to visit before it closes on July 14 at Sarieva/Gallery in Sofia.

In early June, Veselina Sarieva and young collector Simeon Markov discussed the exhibition "Study of a Collection" and the state of contemporary art collecting in Bulgaria. A recording of their conversation is available in this newsletter.

This summer, you can explore the works of Luchezar Boyadjiev, Kamen Stoyanov, Pravdoliub Ivanov, Rudi Ninov and Nedko Solakov, exhibited in Bulgaria, Poland and Italy.

Additionally, we've included some interesting media coverage for you to enjoy.

Wishing you a fascinating, exciting, and very relaxing summer! We look forward to sharing more news and events with you in early September.

Warm regards, The Sarieva/Gallery Team!

GALLERY NEWS

Sarieva/Gallery is thrilled to announce its official representation of the acclaimed artist Dimitar Genchev.

Known for his distinctive style that melds hyperrealism with abstract elements, Genchev's work has captivated audiences both in Bulgaria and internationally.

Dimitar Genchev's journey with Sarieva/Gallery has included notable solo exhibitions such as Sepia (2024) and Family Portrait (2020), as well as group exhibitions like +1 (2023) and BACKGROUND: Young Artists (2019). In 2022, his exhibition Light and Dust was a highlight at Sarieva/Hub in Plovdiv.

Born in 1985 in Plovdiv, Genchev's artistic education spans prestigious institutions, including the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, Utrecht School of Art (HKU), Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, and Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Strasbourg, France. His works have been exhibited at prominent venues such as De Domijnen Museum of Contemporary Art, Sittard; Credo Bonum, Sofia; Morsbroich Museum, Leverkusen; Royal Palace, Amsterdam; Cloud Seven, Brussels; Sofia City Art Gallery, etc.

Genchev's artistic philosophy is deeply influenced by his heritage and upbringing. His father's expertise in traditional Bulgarian ceramics inspired Genchev's fascination with texture and physicality in painting. In his spacious studio in Plovdiv in a former hospital building next to the Maritsa River, Genchev creates a unique blend of hyperreal and imaginary worlds, challenging viewers' perceptions with his mastery of light and texture.

As art critic Anne Berk notes, "Genchev enchants the viewer with the illusion of light playing on bodies and objects, so lifelike that you believe that you can touch them, challenging our perception."

In September, Sarieva/Gallery will showcase Genchev's works at viennacontemporary 2024, offering art enthusiasts another opportunity to engage with his captivating creations.
