SARIEVA / Gallery is pleased to share that works by Sasho Stoitzov and Vladimir Ivanov, part of the Vesselina Sarieva Collection, were included in the exhibition Built on a Geometric Principle: Visual Arts, Music, and Architecture. Geometric Form and Figuration from the Second Half of the 20th Century in Bulgaria, presented at Sofia City Art Gallery (25 March – 7 June 2026).
The exhibition offers a focused visual essay on post-war Bulgarian art, exploring the role of geometrisation as both an aesthetic strategy and a cultural position within the context of the late 20th century. By placing geometric abstraction alongside figuration, the project revisits the notion of “formalism” and its complex status within a totalitarian environment.
The works from the Vesselina Sarieva Collection contribute to this broader historical and conceptual framework, highlighting key artistic approaches to abstraction, structure, and visual language in Bulgaria.
Reproductions of both works are also included in the accompanying bilingual catalogue, which expands on the exhibition’s themes through critical texts and archival material.
The exhibition is curated by a multidisciplinary team including Aneta Vasileva, Milla Mineva, Daniela Radeva, Teodor Iliev, Iliya Gramatikov, and Nikolay Sabev (N: Mode).
