Artist's Studio at SARIEV

On May 1, 2020 Sariev announced an open call - Studio at SARIEV Gallery for artists of all ages. The invitation aims to support the re-opening of the art scene and the work of the creators while the gallery is preparing to welcome visitors again after the COVID-19 epidemic. The support includes: providing a work space in the gallery for the artist and a budget for materials. The selected artist will turn the space of Sariev gallery into a studio for a certain period of time. At the end of the period and at the request of the artist we will organize a presentation of his/her works for a weekend.

Artist’s studio at Sariev is a laboratory that changes the perception of gallery space and provides opportunities for artists to have experience in a new environment that provokes and supports them to create. During this unique residence, the artist also has the opportunity to interact with the city and its area and to meet with specialists and people to contribute to the development of his work and his journey.

The first selected artist to work at Sariev gallery between May 13 - June 17 is Maria Nalbantova.

The opportunity I received from Sariev gallery to turn their gallery into my temporary studio is both wonderful and a real challenge. I am very interested in working with the gallery space, as well as talking to different people who have witnessed my work process. After a two-month period of isolation related to the pandemic, in which I felt the rupture of the social fabric, the separation of the individual from society and the lack of freedom, my stay here is like a restart in which I can expand my thoughts, to work and experiment. In this temporary studio of mine, I can explore new artistic means and expand and enrich my creative process.

SARIEV Gallery, Plovdiv presents the exhibition the hybrid-pure by the artist Maria Nalbantova as part of the Artist’s studio at Sariev residence.

The exhibition will present new works created during Maria Nalbantova's stay in Plovdiv between May 13 and June 12, a stay during which she turned the gallery space into her studio

About the hybrid-pure Maria Nalbantova says: The project I am working on is related to "hygiene", but the one beyond the body that inhabits the territories of the human, the moral and the existential. Hygiene in human relationships, personal moral hygiene related to our personal responsibility to others and some higher human categories, as well as hygiene related to our interaction with nature and the environment.

Maria Nalbantova is a visual artist who works in the field of contemporary visual arts, experimenting with various media and techniques such as: drawing, collage, found objects, art book, installation and video. She graduated with a bachelor's degree (2013) and a master's degree (2015) from the National Academy of Arts, Department of Book and Printed Graphics. Nalbantova specialized for one semester in the Erasmus program at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad de Granada, Granada, Spain (2012).
