Sarieva/Gallery announces its representation of Artan Hajrullahu

Born in 1979 in Gjilan, Kosovo, Artan Hajrullahu is an artist challenging societal norms through his paintings and drawings. His works provoke conservative ideals around beauty, nudity, relationships, marriage, gender roles, and personal choice, often facing criticism from traditionalists.

Hajrullahu portrays the Balkans, revealing its intimate world, local life, dreams, and relationships outside urban centers. His artistic visions lack spatial boundaries and perspective, emphasizing the unity and openness maintained by relationships, love, and acceptance of change.

To reinforce the idea of boundlessness, Hajrullahu works with ordinary pencils and cheap wrapping paper traditionally used for food and objects transportation. These choices evoke a sense of poverty, transience, crisis and authenticity.
 

 
In 2023, Artan gained global acclaim at Manifesta 14, curated by Catherine Nichols, resulting in widespread press coverage and acquisitions for museum collections.

The beginning of the collaboration with Sarieva/Gallery marks a significant achievement, with his participation in the 8th Yokohama Triennale, "Wild Grass: Our Lives," curated by LIU Ding and Carol Yinghua LU, from March 15 to June 9, 2024, in Yokohama, Japan. The exhibition will showcase a selection of works previously presented at Sarieva/Gallery in Plovdiv in 2023.
