The Sky is a Color

The Sky is a Color

Sariev Contemporary presents Rada Boukova’s second solo exhibition The Sky is a Color, created in collaboration with Angelina Krusteva. The exhibition will be on view from 7 November 2014 to 18 January 2015 in two locations: the SARIEV Contemporary Space in 40 Otets Paisiy St., and the SARIEV Project Space in the Kapana Quarter.

Rada Boukova insists on working with “a pair of eyes and two pairs of hands”. How does that work? In this exhibition, quite literally: she has used the hands of Angelina Krusteva, who is not an artist or art historian, and can’t really see the artworks (literally). To perceive the space, she makes use of her other senses and capabilities, which in artists are commonly repressed by eyesight. On top of that, Angelina is truly interested in art.
So what is it, then? An exhibition by Rada Boukova and Angelina Krusteva. Their collaboration, discussions and experiments will be part of the show. The public will be able to see and observe them. As far as possible, the show will be put together with help of equally developed senses and accompanied by dialogue and communication.
Why is Rada Boukova doing this? While contemporary artists can claim dominion over all means of expression and, respectively, all human senses, sight remains paramount and the most developed. Rada Boukova finds a way to perfect her other, professionally-biased senses with external help. The goal, as always in her work, is to achieve the ultimate fusion of thought and form. And since her subject is sight and seeing, it finds its physical expression in the medium of light. Light or its absence can certainly shape the form, but in this particular case it also coordinates the joint work of the senses.
